Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act 1986 talks about the hazardous units of the employability and prohibit the employers to employ children in them and regulate employability of children in the non-hazardous units. Law has laid emphasis on physical injury that effects the physiology of a child but the "psychological injury" is left as such. Psychological injury can have disastrous impact to shape the personality of a child. The paper reviewed types of non–hazardous occupations where children are involved at work, methods, Ericson's developmental stages of children affected by child's labour activities, assessing psychological effects, constitutional provisions; psychosocial analysis, and concluded that once a child gets employed he or she loses the freedom to spend his or her time by his own free will.

The physical aspects of child labour across the world have been explored to a vast context. Child labour's impact on health, education, economy, family were widely discussed, but the relationship between child labour and psychological health still remains an unexplored area. The present study explores the hyperactive aspect of child labour. Strength and difficulty questionnaire of Robert Goodman was used. The tool was applied to children in Delhi (n=1000) in the slums over a group of school going and child labour children between the ages of 7-14 years. The mean t-test value for child labour was 4.77 and that of school children of the same socioeconomic condition was 4.60. The results were almost the same probably because the same types of social problems exists for both the groups. Strong positive association between working children status and difficulty score was established (p<.001).

Emotional issues among child labour never received much attention as compared to physical aspects. A study was conducted in Delhi amongst the child labour and school-going children of the same socio-economic background, in this case the slums of Delhi (India) to study the behavior patterns of the children. Children within age group of 7-14 years were selected between school going and child labour category. A sample size was drawn. Five hundred children from each group were selected (n=1000) using probability proportionate sampling method across different slums. One hundred children (both 50 school-going and 50 child labour) from each slum were selected. Purposive convenience sampling technique was used to select the children in a particular slum. Strength and difficulty questionnaire (SDQ) devised by Robert Goodman was used as a tool. The children working as child labour in Delhi slums are found to be more prone to face emotional difficulties in behavioural aspects than the school-going children from the same socio-economic indicators.
